Nativity of the Virgin, Madley, Herefordshire

The church has twelve misericords, six on the north and six on the south of the chancel, which was under construction by 1318; a seventh chair on the back wall each side lacks such a feature.
The misericords are all in the same style; a striking central shelf of simple, elegant design. Most of them are connected to supporters consisting of various formulations of oak leaves or sunflowers. N3, S2 and S6 lack the supporters but there are traces of them on S2 and S6 which suggests that all twelve may have had both features. Might the loss of the supporters suggests that they were separately created from the seats?
